Warka, Poland: Orthodox American Jew attacked at a cemetery
May 09, 2008
According to the European Jewish Press (EJP) 19-year-old Asa Yitzchak Baitch from Ann Arbor, a city near Detroit, was attacked by a group of twenty teenagers when he was visiting the mausoleum commemorating Hassidic Rabbi Yitzhak Kalish.
The attackers asked him for money and were shouting “Jew” in Polish before they punched him in the face. The young man was lightly wounded, managed to escape his attackers, and was helped by Polish policemen who are conducting an inquiry into the incident. Poland’s chief rabbi Michael Schudrich said: “Even though this is a usual occurrence in Poland, where many Jews visit the country, it is unacceptable.”
