Paris, France: France 2 network loses libel case against Philippe Karsenty
A Parisian appeals court ruled in favor of media watchdog Philipp Karsenty, accused of libel by television channel France 2. The court overturned the libel verdict that France 2 won earlier.
Karsenty claimed that the channel’s report about the death of the Palestinian boy Mohammed al-Dura in September 2000 was faked to fit the claim that al-Dura was shot by Israeli soldiers.
The court ruled that Karsenty acted in good faith when he criticized the France 2 report.
The Israeli Defense Force said that it was “quite plausible that the boy was hit by Palestinian bullets in the course of an exchange fire” after completing a full military investigation into the incident.
France 2 said it would challenge the ruling.
