Moscow, Russia: Employee of Action Reconciliation Service for Peace Threatened

November 24, 2008

Ute Weinmann, Germany’s representative to the Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (ARSP) was threatened by neo-Nazis in Moscow. ARSP is a German peace and volunteer service organization founded in the aftermath of World War II to confront the legacy of the Nazi regime.

Weinmann, who is married with Vlad Tupikin, a left leaning publicist, has been working in Russia for ARSP since 1999. In October she found her address in the neo-Nazi internet-community “Slavnazi”. A user wrote: “Much to my surprise I noticed that the public enemy Vlad Tupikin and his wife are living in my neighborhood. We’ll get him”. Early November Ute Weinmann discovered a Celtic cross scratched in the wall next to her entry door. According to the independent information center “Sova” 68 people were killed in racist attacks in Russia between January and August 2008.
