Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt), Germany: Right-Wing Extremist Violence Rises Further
August 22, 2008
The quota of right-wing extremist motivated violence in Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt) continues to rise. According to reports by the Mobile Victim’s Counseling Service (Mobile Opferberatung), the number of violent acts in East-German states over the first six months of this year has risen by about a third, compared to the 2007statistics, to 73 incidents with 108 victims.
Statistically every two to three days a racist or right-wing extremist act of violence is reported. Also, a considerable number of unreported cases must be assumed, since many victims do not notify the police or counseling projects out of fear. The Mobile Victim’s Counseling Service, which is supported by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs and the state of Saxony-Anhalt, supports and provides advice to victims of such violence.
