London, UK: First Sponsors Leaving Last.FM
After having detected and reported on a large network of right-wing-extremist, antisemitic and xenophobic music bands and fans, Enstation Rechts now announced that several sponsors such as McDonalds, Napster, Stayfriends and Worldvision are leaving the music platform Last.fm and are terminating advertisements on their website.
Despite several inquiries from Endstation Rechts, the internet music website Last.fm continued to feature right-wing extremist bands, users, and groups. On the website, dozens of bands with names like “Jewicide”, “Waffen SS” and “Arian Blood” are given a platform to promote their music, even though they use Nazi vocabulary and iconography like the swastika and the “German” salute.
Endstation Rechts, a German internet platform against right-wing extremism, reported the alarming development repeatedly to Last.fm, which is based in London, UK and by its own declaration has had 21 million users in May, June and July 2008. Endstation Rechts has yet to receive an answer.
