Budapest, Hungary: Nazi Propaganda-Film Shown in Budapest

July 22, 2008

The Nazi-Propaganda-Film “Jud Süß” was shown twice in a cellar in Budapest by a Neo-Nazi group. The hosts, who charged a fee for the viewing, are presumed to be the right-wing extremist publishing house of the brothers Gede and the wife of right-wing extremist pastor Lorant Hegedüs Jr. In the subsequent search of the location and the neighborhood the police found several DVD copies of the film.

The film, directed by Veit Harlan, was commissioned in 1940 by the Nazi minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels. It was shown systematically to SS-soldiers before their assignment to concentration camps in order to increase their aggressiveness towards Jews. The rights of the film lie with the Friedrich-Murnau-Foundation in Wiesbaden/Germany and may only be shown with its permission, which the hosts in Budapest did not have.
